Amaterasu (天照)

天照

The Shinto sun goddess, source of light and life.

Amaterasu (天照) is the radiant sun goddess of Japan's Shintō tradition — "she who shines in the heavens" — revered as a source of light, life, and order, and as a divine ancestor in Japanese mythology. Her most famous story tells how, withdrawing into a cave in grief, she plunged the world into darkness, until the other kami coaxed her out and light returned — a timeless image of the sun's renewal.

Her qualities. Warmth, illumination, vitality, and benevolent sovereignty — the life-giving power of the sun.

In energy practice. Practitioners may invoke Amaterasu for warmth, clarity, renewal, and the courage to emerge from dark times back into the light.

Honouring Amaterasu is a faith- and intention-based spiritual practice drawn from a living tradition — offered for inspiration and reverence.
