Aura
The layered field of subtle energy that surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body.
The Aura is the field of subtle energy said to surround and interpenetrate the physical body — an atmosphere of life-force extending outward in every direction. Many traditions describe it as layered, with finer and subtler bands reaching further from the body, reflecting a person's physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual state.
What it's said to hold. Practitioners describe the aura as carrying impressions of mood, health, and history — bright and expansive when a person feels well and at peace, dense or dim when they feel depleted, stressed, or unwell.
Sensing and tending it. With practice, many learn to feel the aura — a warmth, tingling, or subtle resistance a few inches from the skin — a skill sometimes called scanning. Energy-healing techniques then work to smooth, clear, and strengthen the field: in Reiki, sweeping the hands through the aura is a common way to clear stagnant or heavy energy.
A protective boundary. A clear, strong aura is often spoken of as a natural boundary — one reason grounding and cleansing practices are valued before and after energy work.
The aura is a traditional, experiential concept rather than a medically measured one — a way of sensing and caring for the whole person beyond the physical body.
