Chanting

Vocal repetition of mantras or symbol names to raise and sustain vibration.

Chanting is the vocal repetition of a sacred sound, mantra, or symbol name to focus the mind, raise one's vibration, and sustain a flow of energy. The voice becomes an instrument: sound carries intention, and steady repetition settles the thinking mind into a meditative, receptive state.

In Reiki. Practitioners traditionally repeat a symbol's name three times to activate it — Cho Ku Rei, Cho Ku Rei, Cho Ku Rei — the spoken name (jumon) calling the symbol's energy into the work. Chanting the Five Precepts aloud, morning and evening, is another long-held practice.

How it works. The felt vibration of the voice in the chest and head, the rhythm of repetition, and the meaning held in the heart combine to deepen focus and presence. Whether spoken aloud or silently within, sincerity matters more than volume.

Beyond Reiki. Chanting is shared across the world's contemplative traditions — mantra in yoga, sacred names in prayer, toning with the breath — all using sound as a doorway to stillness and connection.

Chanting is a contemplative practice for focus and presence — a gentle way to steady the mind and lift the heart.
