Energetic Cord-Cutting
Releasing draining energetic attachments that form between people.
Energetic cords are the invisible threads of energy said to form between people through relationship and attachment. Healthy bonds — with loved ones, friends, family — create cords of love and nourishment. But cords can also tie us to old hurts, draining dynamics, or people we need to release. Cord-cutting is the practice of lovingly dissolving these depleting attachments.
Why it's done. When a connection leaves you feeling drained, anxious, or unable to move on, traditions describe an energetic cord still pulling on your field. Cutting it is a way of reclaiming your energy and restoring a healthy boundary — without wishing the other person harm.
How it's practiced. The work is gentle and intention-led: settling into a calm state, calling the attachment to mind, and asking that any cords no longer serving the highest good be released. Many invoke Archangel Michael and his sword of light to sever the cord cleanly, then seal and fill the space with healing energy. In Reiki, the symbols and hand positions support the same intention.
Afterward. Grounding and self-care help integrate the release; cords with living relationships may need cutting more than once as the patterns soften.
Cord-cutting is a faith- and intention-based practice for emotional release and healthy boundaries — complementary and educational, never a substitute for professional support.
