Energy Actions
How Reiki energy behaves: charging, discharging, cleansing, balancing, or transmuting.
Energy Actions describe the different ways Reiki and life-force energy behave as a practitioner works — the verbs of energy healing. Rather than a single effect, energy can move in several distinct modes, and recognizing them helps a practitioner understand what a session is doing.
The main actions:
- Charging — filling a person, place, or object with fresh, vital energy where it feels depleted.
- Discharging — drawing off and releasing excess or stagnant energy that has built up.
- Cleansing — clearing away heavy, murky, or unwanted energy to restore clarity.
- Balancing — harmonizing the flow so energy is neither excessive nor deficient, but even.
- Transmuting — transforming dense or negative energy into a lighter, higher form.
Energy follows intention. Which action unfolds is guided largely by the practitioner's intention and the recipient's needs — and Reiki, being intelligent, is said to "know" what is required, often doing several at once.
Why name them. Naming the actions gives practitioners a clearer feel for their work — noticing when a field needs filling versus clearing, soothing versus enlivening.
These categories are a practical, experiential framework for understanding energy work — a vocabulary for what is felt, not a clinical mechanism.
