Hatsurei-ho

発霊法

A daily Japanese practice to cleanse and strengthen one's own Reiki energy.

Hatsurei-hō (発霊法) is a foundational Japanese Reiki practice whose name means roughly "the method for generating and releasing spiritual energy." Taught in the traditional Usui lineages, it is used daily to cleanse one's energy, strengthen the flow of ki, and deepen one's connection to Reiki — preparing the practitioner for healing, meditation, or attunement.

The sequence. The classic form moves through several steps:

  • Mokunen — settling into silence and stating a quiet intention to begin.
  • Kenyoku-hō — "dry bathing," brushing the hands across the body to sweep away stagnant energy.
  • Joshin Kokyū-hō — mind-cleansing breathing, drawing light down into the tanden on the inhale and releasing heaviness on the exhale.
  • Gasshō — resting with the palms together at the heart in still attention.
  • Seishin Tōitsu — unifying the mind, letting energy radiate and merge with the universal field.
  • A closing Mokunen to seal the practice.

Why it matters. Kenyoku clears the outer aura, while the breathing purifies the inner field — together cleansing, grounding, and centering. Practised regularly, Hatsurei-hō is said to refine one's sensitivity and steadily amplify the Reiki connection.

A short daily practice, it is the quiet discipline behind a strong and steady channel.
