Kundalini

कुण्डलिनी

Dormant spiritual energy said to rest coiled at the base of the spine.

Kundalini (कुण्डलिनी) means "the coiled one," from kundal, a coil or ring. It names a powerful spiritual energy pictured as a serpent sleeping, coiled three and a half times, at the base of the spine. It belongs to the yogic and tantric traditions of India, where it is regarded as the dormant potential for spiritual awakening that rests within every person.

The rising. When awakened — through meditation, breathwork, devotion, or grace — this energy is said to uncoil and rise through the central channel (sushumna nadi), passing through each chakra in turn and bringing expanded awareness, insight, and a profound sense of union.

A gentle path. Traditions consistently counsel patience and respect. A sudden or forced awakening is described as overwhelming, so most teachers favour gradual, grounded practice and the guidance of an experienced teacher. Steadiness, humility, and care are the watchwords.

In energy work. Many practitioners understand the gentle, cumulative opening that comes with regular Reiki and meditation as a soft, safe way of encouraging this same inner energy to stir and flow in its own time.

Kundalini is a spiritual and experiential concept, offered for inner growth and self-awareness — complementary and educational, never a substitute for medical or psychological care.
