Savitr

Vedic solar deity of divine, vivifying power.

Savitr is a Vedic solar deity embodying the divine, vivifying power of the sun — the impeller and life-giver who rouses the world each dawn and sets all things in motion. Distinct from the visible sun, Savitr represents the sun's animating, awakening spiritual force. The renowned Gāyatrī Mantra is addressed to his radiant light.

His qualities. Divine illumination, the awakening and quickening of life, vital energy, and the light that stirs the mind and the world into wakefulness.

In practice. Practitioners may honour Savitr — especially at sunrise — for vitality, awakening, mental illumination, and the kindling of inner light, often through the Gāyatrī Mantra that invokes his radiance.

Honouring Savitr is a faith- and intention-based spiritual practice drawn from a living tradition — offered for reflection and reverence.
