Self-Healing
Treating oneself daily — the foundation of a steady Reiki practice.
Self-healing — treating oneself with Reiki — is widely regarded as the true foundation of the practice. Before Reiki is offered to anyone else, it is offered, daily, to oneself. Mikao Usui's own system was first and foremost a path of personal healing and spiritual growth.
Why it comes first. A practitioner is a channel, and a clear, cared-for channel serves best. Regular self-treatment is said to steadily clear and strengthen one's own energy, deepen sensitivity, and keep the connection to Reiki flowing. "You cannot pour from an empty cup" captures the spirit of it.
How it's practiced. A simple daily session — resting the hands through a sequence of positions on one's own body, often before sleep or on waking — is enough. Many pair it with the Five Precepts and a few quiet breaths, making it as much a meditation as a treatment.
A lifelong habit. Consistency matters more than length: a short daily practice does more than an occasional long one. Over time, self-healing becomes less a task and more a way of living — a daily return to balance.
Self-healing is a complementary practice for relaxation and self-care — supportive of wellbeing, never a replacement for medical treatment.
