Egyptian god of wisdom, writing, and magic.
Thoth is the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom, writing, magic, and the moon — the divine scribe who recorded the deeds of gods and souls, and the keeper of sacred knowledge. Credited with inventing writing, mathematics, and the magical and healing arts, he was revered as the mediator and measurer who maintained cosmic order (ma'at).
His symbolism. Depicted with the head of an ibis or as a baboon, often holding a scribe's palette and reed. He governs language, law, time, and the hidden wisdom behind the visible world; later traditions linked him with Hermes Trismegistus and the Hermetic teachings.
In practice. Practitioners may honour Thoth for wisdom and learning, sacred knowledge and study, clear communication and writing, and work with sacred symbol and word.
Honouring Thoth is a faith- and intention-based spiritual practice drawn from a living tradition — offered for reflection and reverence.
